Our History
Common Table Health Alliance was founded in the spring of 2000 as Justice in Health Care Foundation, a public benefit corporation. It was created by a group of passionate health care professionals as they sat around one of the volunteers' dining table. These dedicated advocates recognized that the many health issues plaguing our community could only be properly addressed if people and organizations worked together. While originally formed to improve health and healthcare systems in the Greater Memphis area, it has evolved to respond to the needs of our community. In 2003, this non-profit organization became Healthy Memphis Common Table (HMCT) and focused its energies on building community-wide collaboration for population health, health equity and improving the health care delivery systems of care. Local leaders requested HMCT coordinate the local health improvement activities for the entire Memphis community, due to our neutral and trusted role as a convener and collaborator.
In 2009, HMCT hired its first Chief Executive Officer, Renee S. Frazier. Then, in 2014, the organization became Common Table Health Alliance (CTHA) to reflect its expanded geographical footprint in the Mid-South region and form greater regional and national partnerships.
In 2016, CTHA's Chief Executive Officer transitioned her role and title to CEO Emeritus to assist the organization in fundraising efforts and serve as co-principle investigator for the Memphis Breast Cancer Coalition. An interim CEO was put in place until CTHA’s new CEO, Kiki Hall was hired in August of 2018.
Common Table Health Alliance continues to respond to the most critical health issues facing our community. As a result, the current focus areas being addressed by our collaboratives are: Breast Health/Breast Cancer via the “Memphis Breast Cancer Consortium” and Youth Health and Wellness via the “Better Together Youth Health Alliance.” Read more about these two initiatives here!
